Notes
Irene went to kagulu to teach about menstruation, basically the meaning, tracking, causes of irregularities, prevention, how to maintain proper hygiene, outcomes of poor hygiene. The lesson started with a speech from one of the village members who represented the chairman, he started with thanking the community members for turning up for the meeting despite the elections that were going on. He then invited Irene to talk to the members. Irene started with a review of the previous lesson then asked the members what they understand by menstruation. It’s when blood comes from the girls for a period of time in a month mastulah said, mai said it’s when a girl is ready to give birth, and Sauda said it’s when women and girls of child baring age bleed monthly. Irene was grateful for the for the idea they had, she then gave the best explanation then explained the ways of tracking the periods which involved the end date of the last period, pains, flow, abnormalities and other changes like breast feeding,PIDs,and fibroids. Irene then explained the prevention of abnormalities, how to maintain proper hygiene, especially use of clean menstrual clothes and and changing of pads regularly, outcomes of poor menstrual hygiene, which involved rush, infections and bad smell. Irene then encouraged he members to always go seek medical treatment whenever they see any abnormalities, bad smell and discomfort during menstruation.
