Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Tape,Suzan,Jessica,Harriet and Henry went to the upper section of the village which was named Kagulu B, to take incentives such as saucepans and soap to the active participants who effectively participated in the healthy and safe kitchens program. When they arrived there, they went to the meeting place and found most members already gathered with some of their committee group leaders. They were warmly welcomed to the village by some members who got up and started singing and dancing while coming towards them. Before settling down, Kibo staff with a few members went and visited a few homes around the village, they were so impressed to find that most members had greatly maintained their facilities especially the stoves and houses which were well smeared. Later after, they went and settled down together and the program chairperson Mr. Mukungu Joseph asked one of the members to say a prayer before the meeting started. He once again welcomed Kibo staff to the village and then requested each one in the meeting to introduce themselves. The chairperson informed Kibo staff how they had got into trouble with strangers in the previous night such as theft and burning of the house of one of their fellow member which was so sad. He said that they had also lost one of the children who had gone to fetch water from a pond and this was because they lucked a borehole to provide clean water. Suzan stood up and first reminded the members the intention of the visit that day, she went ahead and said that Kibo staff had come to thank them for embracing the kitchens program and participating in all the activities. She also introduced Henry as the country director of Kibo group Jinja ,and then requested each of the staff members to briefly talk to the community. Tape and Jessica talked to the members and encouraged them to always maintain all their facilities so that they would last longer and also use them on a daily basis especially the fuel efficient stoves. They thanked each one for the good work done and wished them a happy healthy life with their families. Harriet and Henry also got up and addressed the community, in their speech, they praised the members for the good work done and encouraged them to maintain the same spirit of working together as a team for an effective development in their community. They went ahead and informed the members how they were going to receive a few gifts as a sign of appreciating the hard work done during the healthy and safe kitchens program activities. The members got so excited on hearing the good news and immediately got up and began dancing and singing on top of their voices as some of the Kibo staff picked the gifts from the vehicle. Two large saucepans were handed over to the committee group members while each person in the group received a piece of soap. The members would use the saucepans in any event which took place in the community such as funerals, village group parties and others. Kibo staff requested the members to always maintain unity among themselves and avoid conflicts. The village chairperson concluded by thanking Kibo group staff for the love and gifts given to them and requested for more developmental programs to be brought in their village. The meeting came to an end wishing each other a happy stay.
