Notes
Introduction Lorna met with the first group and here they talked about Early marriages and the dangers. At the end of the lesson, the community will know the causes of early marriages and the dangers and therefore refuse to participate in it and denounce it in their community. Conclusion On the way to the village, Lorna communicated to the chairman about what is on ground and he mentioned that they were having elections but they would meet at 1pm. When they arrived people were still lining up and so a Lorna and Diana decided to visit the home of the Nabakyala” woman councilor because they were informed she was sick. At her place they found her barely walking but she was happy that she is now able to walk because the previous day she was just being carried. They stayed here as they waited for the election and strategizing if they should teach or reschedule for another day because others were already drinking. However we decided to go back shift the meeting place to the side and then meet a few people so that the day would not be wasted. The meeting started with a word of prayer by Gadaffi and thereafter Lorna was invited to teach. Lorna started by reviewing the previous topic on Early pregnancy where she asked the community members to remind us all what some of the causes were among them were ; Parental neglect where parents are not caring and talking to their children they assume the role of sex should be taught by someone else and giving a lot of freedom to the children is one of the major reasons for early pregnancies. On the dangers of early pregnancies, we looked at the baby like what are the negative consequences of early pregnancies. Lorna mentioned that most times the young mother will be forced to leave the baby at the mothers home and go look for work else where so this baby and the mother will not get this bond as mother and child and therefore the burden will be on the mother of the girl, the baby may be born premature, may get complications like respiratory problems. The baby may get sick and because the young parents have no good income could die among others. After this, they looked at Early marriages where they also looked at the causes among which are; Early pregnancy where parents are reluctant to take children back to school but instead due to dowry and some small goats, cows, and some small money they give up their children, school dropout is another reason, gender inequality, ignorance, poverty, peer pressure, lack of basic needs among others. On the dangers Lorna mentioned ; HIV/ AIDS both the boy and girls are liable to getting these diseases and other sexually transmitted diseases, also domestic violence is another consequence because of lack of decision making where the young girl cannot stand up for her own rights, sexual violence where the girl has no say on her sexual rights or the number of children to have, poverty is another consequence because the income for both of them is not sufficient, creates dependence of the girl to her parents, School drop out among others. After this Lorna asked Diana to also say something concerning the topic. Diana encouraged parents to talk to their children that is have time for their children walk with them even if they are pregnant to let them give birth and take them back to school. Diana encouraged them to educate their children children as education is an investment. She gave various examples of different women and men who have-made it in life. She told them if it wasn’t for education, she or Lorna would not have made it this far, she mentioned that when they educate their children they will reap the fruits when the children come home with a gomesi, food basket. When their children become doctors and they will be the ones treating them. To provide for their teenagers whatever they need so not to force them to get it from others. Conclusion Lorna mentioned that they need to empower their teenage daughters to say NO to sex and to also mention to the boys to give them time to finish their studies. She also mentioned that they need to avoid free gifts and to go an extra mile to ask these men their source of income to go ahead and show them their houses. This is because some of them don’t even have jobs but are just looking at sex . She mentioned that teens getting married early only brings dependency and poverty on the entire family but when they get married at a right age , the self esteem or pride is high and so is the respect . They will even be the envy of others in the village.
