Notes
Harriet went to kiteigalwa to follow up on smearing of stoves and the kitchens and stove upstage because during the previous visit there were some facilities that were not smeared that had caused some stoves to crack and some four homes were found cooking on open flames alongside the fuel efficient stove. The participants gave an excuse that the use the three stove fire to fry pancakes andKibo staff had to encourage them on the dangers of open flames and taught them how they can fry pancakes on the fuel efficient stoves. Harriet made a surprise visit in this village and when she reached she started walking home to home to check on those facilities. Interestingly this time Harriet found when every home had a smeared his/her stove and the kitchen. The participants were very appreciative of Kibo’s follow up visit and encouraged. Also the four homes that were found cooking on the three stone fire alongside the stove had also improved. Every one was cooking on the fuel efficient stoves and this was evidenced by the absence of three stones fire in the kitchen. Some participants who thought that the fuel efficient stove can not fry pancakes testified that the stove can fry pancakes after Harriet had encouraged them through showing them photos from Bulyowa of some people who were frying pancakes on the fuel efficient stove. They also told Harriet that the stove cooks first as it contained fire inside than even reduced heat in the entire kitchen. They compared it to the traditional three stones that used a lot of firewood which produced a lot of ash that at times contaminated the pancakes. The participants thanked kibo for encouraging them , reminding and advising them where necessary. They promised to maintain their facilities in order to last longer and be effectively used.
