Notes
The water and sanitation committee members were present during this meeting something that was very unique again that both committees continue to work together to emphasize that all kibo is doing in their village continues to be taken up by everyone in the village. The village leaders in this village feel proud that in the whole of Naibowa Parish a lot is being admired by the rest of the villages around them and have been already ranked as the cleanest village in the sub county and now acting as a model village in the sub county whereby the leaders have been encouraged to teach the remaining village leaders to improve their villages without the government enforcing them. However the village leaders continue to give all the credit to Kibo group for having put in a lot of efforts to help their village reach these standards. Alex had a discussion with the water and sanitation committee members about keeping a safe water chain in their village where by all the committee members have to work together to encourage all the village residents to have clean homes, well swept compounds, clean Jerrycans and clean water pots where drinking water is stored. All the water users need to be encouraged to have clean Jerrycans to fetch water at all times. Both committees work together to ensure the village hygiene and sanitation standards are maintained and also ensure borehole management. The committee leaders asked when they could start the wall construction but Alex told them to be patient since kibo is not yet ready with the support for cement before the construction process starts. The village is now facing a challenge to buy the cement about 10 bags for the wall construction, the village has got this has the biggest challenge but they have managed to contribute the rest of the materials like bricks, sand and gravel. The new borehole is being used by the village but it’s at a risk of breaking the bearings easily since it lacks the fence and it’s very hard to properly manage it by the water user committee. WASH staff will go back only if cement has been got to guide the village while constructing the fence. This is the biggest part remaining before the bylaws are enacted by the village and commissioning of the new well takes place.
