Notes
On reaching the village, Tom found when the committee members were waiting for him in the trading center. Before moving around the village, some of the committee members had issues with some specific residents like Mr Opama and Mr Kabwayi whom they said were among the worst in the village regarding sanitation and hygiene yet they are not working or nothing is being done to improve their homes. So, after a bitter discussion, the committee members decided that Tom first makes a visit to those particular homes before going to any other home. Tom accepted and they first moved to Mr Opama’s home were they found a full and open pit that him and his family use for defecating in. Mr Opama was very surprised to see the committee members in his home and when he realized it was about sanitation and hygiene in his home, he quickly promised that he was going to immediately start on the digging of a new pit and construct a new latrine. Tom also encouraged his two wives to also help by digging rubbish pits for the home. After they moved to Mr Kabwayi’s home but good enough they found when he had recently dug a pit of about 25ft and promised that he will soon construct the structure on it. Tom thanked him and encouraged him to continue improving even other facilities as well. They moved in several other homes like mr Boscos home, who they found his current pit in a dare situation but he has started digging a new one. In three neighbouring homes, Tom and the committee members encouraged all of them to dig each a new pit because all the three homes practice Open defecation. The committee members were very happy about the trading centre because the trading centre, has improved greatly. After moving around, they had a short meeting to discuss about the next section they will be moving in and already they decided that they will be moving in the lower section.
