Notes
Enock and Martin visited this community to continue encouraging, monitoring, sensitize, educate and evaluate the progress of sanitation and hygiene. They also made a visit in home which had no latrines during the second evaluation to know if they have anything under construction. We walked in the home near the trading centre and the ones closer to it to check whether they are constructing the new hand washing model and know if they use the facilities well. The good news is there are many new latrines, hand washing stations, shower areas and use of good and strong material to construct sustainable facilities. Most of the homes in this area have used bricks, cement and iron sheets to roof. They have greatly understood the values of sustainability and have invested in there latrine construction as well as shower areas. We also meet a lady who was constructing her own hand washing station, it was so cool to see that also women participate in the hand washing construction. We also encouraged the children who are still in holidays to take this time in participating the improvement of sanitation and hygiene levels of their homes. Since the parents are busy looking for food and money for taking them back to schools. Most of the children we spoke to really like the idea and promised to work and help their parents. We also encouraged those who haven’t roofed there facilities to buy iron sheets to roof so that there facilities or use other materials to roof so that the heavy rains can’t break them down. The local leaders are so appreciative for all the lessons and help in the mobilization and recording down all the homes that really need more lessons and encouragement so that they are all brought up to spread. There has been behavioral change in many homes where most of the homes in this village use latrines not open defecation like before. This shows a great progress in this village.
