Notes
Enock and Martin visited the community to continue checking on the progress of latrine and other facilities, as well as sensitizing and educating the community members in the up section of the village to work so hard to improve on their sanitation and hygiene. We walked home to home teaching the core use of hand washing, proper latrine construction since some of the families lost there latrines due to heavy rain storms due to poor construction. We used it as an opportunity to talk about sustainability through guiding them and teaching them how to construct good and strong latrine foundation so that the structure constructed can be strong with a proper roof to avoid rains from washing the structures down. We demonstrated in one of the homes which had a new a latrine hole on how to use all different materials while construct a good standard latrine. Martin encouraged the residents to construct good standard dish racks and also talked about the values of using it. The women were so interested and appreciate the lessons they learnt and promised to use and clean the facilities well. There are some people who have also constructed good latrines who we encouraged to keep them up to standards and maintain them neatly. During this visit we continued monitoring and encouraging the local leaders to come for a general meeting next week on Monday which we are planing to talk about the way forward of all the residents who are slow to bring them up to speed so that the whole community can be uniform with good and improved sanitation and hygiene facilities in every home. To also hear from all the leaders if the program has been impactful. The good news is everyone in the community embrace the program and working toward achieving proper hygiene and increasing the level of sanitation through all the lessons taught to them. There is a VHT who called Matia helping the residents to construct hand washing stations.
