Notes
Tom and Akurut made a visit to kalalu village to check and follow up on sanitation and hygiene improvements as well as facility constructions. The meeting that Tom was meant to hold on the lower section was canceled and postponed to the next week. As Tom and Akurut approaches the village of kalalu, the weather was getting rainy and Tom suggested to Akurut that they should check on homes as they move along into the village because he did not know if really based on the weather the follow up would be conducted with the committee members. Also there was a death in the village on the upper section of man and the cause was speculated that it might have been from high alcohol consumption. So most of the committee members that Tom and Akurut met were moving to the funeral place. As Tom and Akurut proceeded, they called on residents to inquire about their progress especially on latrine constructions and other facilities. In one home, the lady was encouraged to speak with her husband so that they they can start on the latrine. In another home, Tom called on a resident called Mulangira who he encouraged to roof his latrine structure as it can collapse due to these heavy rains. The resident said he was going to roof it. In another home, the resident promised last week that she was to construct the hand washing stands by this week and as Tom and Akurut passed by, they saw a new hand washing stand. Tom encouraged her to get a jerican and start using it. As they moved, Tom also found a home with a new dish rack after Tom encouraged the lady to construct it for her home. She had also constructed the hand washing stand but was yet to cement it. In another home down the road, they found the wife of a resident called Mr Basoga. In their home, they have no latrine but only a shallow open pit. Tom and Akurut spoke and encouraged the lady to work with her husband to get a latrine for their home. The lady said she was drying ground nuts and after buy materials for the construction of the latrine. As they left this home, the rain started so Tom and Akurut decided to drive towards the trading center before turning back to jinja. On their way to the trading center, they found a new pit being constructed and in another home, they have collected bricks to start on the construction of the latrine structure. Tom and Akurut did not meet any committee members as it was raining hard and due to the nature of the roads, Tom and Akurut left for jinja.
