Notes
Tom made a,visit to Mpumiro village to conduct the third evaluation but he changed the plan because y the time he arrived in the village, it was late due to the bad roads caused by the heavy storms. In the village there was a function as well paying respects to a woman who recently passed away. The weather was still threatening and therefore the chairman of the village suggested the evaluation be conducted on another day as it was going to be hard. Tom and together with the chairman and another committee member decided that they move in homes with facilities yet to be completed. They first moved to the upper section where they where encouraged by residents who have worked and improved on even some existing facilities. There some hand washing stands that were starting to break because they where constructed using unburnt bricks. Tom was able to speak to the residents to construct new hand washing stands using better bricks and encouraged them to cement the stands. In one home of one resident who recently traveled to the village to attend the function mentioned above, was very encouraged when he found very different especially when it comes to the hand washing. He also immediately constructed a hand washing stand for his home and was left when he was constructing the dish rack. In some homes on the upper section, Tom continued encouraging residents on constructing standard facilities. From the upper section they moved to the lower section where they also encouraged residents on finishing their facilities. Along the road they encouraged two homes on the construction of kitchens and standard dish racks. In one home, Tom, the chairman and the committee member where encouraged to find when then resident Mr Kalunge had constructed the latrine structure and was remaining to roof as well as plastering. Mr Kalunge was one of the residents who were very stubborn but after realizing the purpose and need of a latrine in his home, the dedicated this season’s harvest to sell it and all the money he used to construct the latrine. Tom encouraged him to roof the latrine to give it durability. The chairman and the committee member suggested that they were going to call a village meeting where they will address all the areas that need to be improved. The chairman said he was going to encourage the residents to construct better standard facilities and also encourage those who are yet to finish their facilities to do so.
