Notes
Enock and Martin made a visit in this community to continue checking on the progress of sanitation and hygiene. They walked around with the local leaders and committee members to continue encouraging, guide, assess, evaluate the impact of sanitation in this community. During the visit, they saw two new dish rack which where constructed with good standard poles, saw 4 newly completed latrines constructed with bricks and proper foundation from the lessons we taught them, 6 new hand washing stands constructed although some people haven’t bought cement to smear on them. Martin encouraged the village residents about the importance of using cement on the hand washing stands that adds firmness and sustainability, he also encouraged those whose shower area constructed with dirt to buy some cement build the top and give strength to the structures. As we walked around we met one old guy who had lost his latrine due to heavy rainfall. The old man called us to his home to guide him how to construct a good foundation for his latrine without using cement. Enock took the initiative to guide him on how to construct a firm foundation where the latrine structure seats, taught his which size of poles needed encouraged him to also make proper drainage system to Chanel the water from the shower to the soak pit. He also encouraged him to roof the structure and encouraged his wife to maintain proper cleanliness. The local leader as well are taking part in creating behavioral change in their community where they directly involve in the encouraging the residents on the core values of sanitation. Most families have greatly improved and through observation there is no open defecation, many people look healthy more so kids. This shows that sanitation facilities are playing a big role in development of this community, educating, uniting and improving cooperation amongst everyone.
