Notes
During this visit to Ndhalike, Alex met with some water and sanitation committee members to continue with training of the committee and this time round, he encouraged them to ensure that they work together and told them their respective responsibilities they play on the committee. Alex told them that it’s through an active committee that will ensure that Ndhalike village will enjoy safe and clean water at all times plus maintenance of the sanitation standards in the village. The new borehole was opened for use last week by Alex in a way to help the village access clean water since the old well had broken down. This move was also to help the water user committee talk to all water users when they came to get water from the new water source to collect more money to meet the repair costs at the old broken well and complete construction of a borehole wall fence around it. There is a great hope that this well will soon be repaired since the village is responding positively towards contributing money to fix it. The community solely raised all the necessary building materials and completed construction of the borehole wall fence at the new well and They have also managed to get all the bricks needed to construct the wall fence at the old borehole too. ALex continued to encourage the new water user committee to mobilize all the funds required to fix the old borehole and go ahead to call the hand pump mechanic to work on it. He also told the committee members that Kibo group would contribute some money towards the construction of the wall fence and they were indeed very happy for the support from kibo group once again. The village is finding it so hard to get all the materials required for the second well and therefore the contribution from Kibo group would help to buy cement, iron bars and some gravel required because it’s the hardest thing now. Alex continued to remind the sanitation committee about the village sanitation standards and should remain active while encouraging all people to maintain their sanitation facility standards to ensure a safe water chain. Alex would go back in a week to follow up on the village contributions towards their broken borehole and continue training of the water user committee as well as emphasize more on a safe water chain in the village.

15794 This well in Ndhalike was drilled back in 2012 by Kibo group and was the only water source serving this large community. Because of too much pressure on it, it broke down again and will need urgent repair to have two wells serve the village
