Notes
Tom made a,visit to Mpumiro village to meet with village and committee members and share with them about the data from the third evaluation. When he arrived in the village, he found the chairman and some of th committee members had gone me to the sub-county to have a meeting about mosquito net distribution in his village. Some of the other committee members were not present as well. Tom and the two VHTs and one committee member decided to move around the village to check on homes that had not facilities like the dish racks and showers to encourage them to construct and advise them on standards. They started off from the chairman’s home where they found that h had recently fixed his old dish rack and replaced it with a new one. He had also constructed a new hand washing stand as the first one had broken when a cow stumbled on it. His brother Tiff has also constructed a new dish rack. Tom encouraged him to use good poles and sticks to construct the dish rack. As they moved around, they also met a home with a new shower area. The resident constructed it with bricks and cemented on top of the shower which gives it more durability to better serve even in the rainy season. Tom encouraged the committee members to also encourage other residents who have below standard shower facilities to buy the idea of that shower facility. On the issue of hand washing, Tom found that many residents hav maintained putting the jericans on the stands and that they are being used. Tom continued to encourage residents to maintain hand washing because on of the only ways to fight disease is to wash hand regularly. One of the vhts also pointed out that one family along the main road towards Mpumiro also recently finished its kitchen, shower area, and dish rack. Tom encouraged the committee members to continue visiting that home and encouraging them about sanitation and hygiene improvements.
