Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Suzan went to the village to follow up on the maintenance of the healthy and safe kitchens facilities and the stove usage. When she got there, she went to the chairman’s home and met some members sitting outside his home next to the meeting place. They happily welcomed her to the village and without wasting much time, Suzan informed them the purpose of the visit that day which was to walk around the village and monitor the maintenance of the facilities and the stove usage. Other members were going to attend a funeral event at a neighboring village while a few stayed behind with Suzan and began visiting home to home. On their way, Suzan observed that most buildings were neatly smeared, new kitchens constructed with firewood storages inside. She also found some women cooking food on their stoves while others had just finished preparing lunch and were eating together with their families inside the kitchens. The elder children were busy helping their parents with house chores since school had not yet started. Suzan kept on advising the parents to always make sure their children got busy especially the big girls and boys so as to avoid joining bad groups or misbehaving in the communities. She also advised the parents to help their children learn new skills such as building stoves, smearing houses for those who were unable to do so, this would help them earn some pocket money to buy their personal items instead of involving themselves in bad acts which would bring shame in the community. The members were so grateful for the advice given to them that day and promised to maintain their facilities as much as possible. Suzan wished them a happy stay until they met again in the coming meeting.
