Notes
Buluvu village is among the old villages selected by WASH program to go back to train and teach hand washing in the village as well as encourage all village residents to maintain their hygiene and sanitation standards. Alex met with a few village leaders to talk to them how the village had kept the sanitation standards. Together they moved to the lower well drilled by kibo group and found it still functioning well but the fence needs replacement. Also they sampled some homes to check on the sanitation standards and observed many of them haven’t done enough to keep the required standards and mostly the dish racks were missing in many homes. The village leaders were told by Alex that they had forgotten about their responsibilities and needed to wake up and move to all residents to make sure the village meets the required sanitation standards. They were told that WASH group plans to return to the village to teach hand washing sometime soon this year and they were happy that it will be another opportunity for the village to step up and improve on their level of Sanitation and hygiene standards. The few leaders that gathered confessed that their village had never got any opportunity to be taught about the values of hand washing and will be eagerly waiting for Kibo Group. Alex then proceeded to Kisiro to meet the water user committee and other leaders to plan for their well commissioning and inspect the borehole status. A new committee was set up by the village members themselves replacing the old in active committee as Alex had instructed them to do so last year. This is one community that has been very hard to work with because of its large size and poor leadership structure. Alex had to disconnect this borehole because of this village poor cooperation with kibo group and were not showing any community ownership of their well. The commissioning of their well will be done during the second week of March on 12/03/2021.
