Notes
Harriet and Tape went to Ndalike village to teach participants how to build fuel efficient stoves. They reached in the village and found the participants waiting at the meeting place. The interesting part of it the participants had already collected all the buildings materials at the sites where the stoves were to be built. Kibo staff asked the community to give reasons why they chose those members to get stoves. The community told kibo staff that ,they chose those members because they are very active in the healthy and safe kitchen program , they always arrive at the meeting place on time and had smeared their home facilities which makes them qualify for getting stoves.Since they had planned to build stoves for two members in that village that day, kibo staff divided the community into two groups where by each staff joined a group. As soon as kibo staff reached those homes ( for Kalembe Joyce and Tatya Ise Rehema)they first inspected the home facilities to see that they meet standards and indeed those homes were smeared, well decorated and women had even smeared the floor of the kitchens . This was setting a good example to the rest of the group. In each group kibo staff guided the participants to mix the dirt and grass at the ratio of 2:1. One group did it perfectly while another group had already forgotten the ratio. Kibo staff corrected them and reminded them to pay attention, to ask questions where they did not understand because they are expected to learn how to build stoves so that they can build for other people. Kibo staff asked the participants to sprinkle water into the mixture of grass and dirt and together with kibo staff stamped the dirt until it was ready to build stove. The participants made balls out of dirt and moved them into the kitchen and this was done collectively. Kibo staff demonstrated how to measure banana stems, built the two fuel efficient stoves as the community was watching. When the stoves were done, kibo staff asked the participants to draw down down how the stoves looks like. Unfortunately most participants failed and kibo staff encouraged them next time to pay more attention ask questions where they did not understand. They also encouraged them to start getting ready to participate in the stove building process because practice makes perfect. The participants thanked kibo for love and encouragement they show them as they teach them how to build fuel efficient stoves. They promised to participate from the beginning up to the end of the program.
