Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Harriet went to Buyange to carry out evaluation on the healthy and safe kitchens program. This was a surprise visit because she did not want the participants to get ready for her instead she wants to find them in their day to day life. She reached in the village un expectedly and was received by the secretary of the Healthy and safe kitchen program called Kawanguzi Nagibu who welcomed her in their village. He volunteered to walk with kibo staff to the homes of the participants as kibo staff was asking questions to the participants as she recorded the findings. She also observed to make sure that some of the responses were true. she reached 16 participants who were interviewed,All the participants were found cooking on their stoves on daily basis and this was evidenced by the absence of three stones fire in the kitchens, food cooking by its self in some homes or being attended by children. Also most facilities were well smeared , stocked firewood in their kitchens which was a sign of showing that this village is sustaining the program. Also men testified that the healthy and safe kitchens program has improved marriage relationship since men and women are able to cook together food for the family as they discuss other family matters unlike the traditional three stoves were so uncomfortable for the men to be in the kitchen.
