Notes
Tom and Alex Walyomu made a visit to kishaike village to observe and participate in the borehole surveying. When they arrived in the village with the surveyors, they found when the village residents were many waiting at the meeting place. It took no time for the chairman to address the village and welcome Tom, Alex and the surveyors. After his speech and appreciation for Kibo, he invited Tom to introduce the rest of the visitors. Tom introduced Alex and the surveyors as well as thanking the residents for their presence. Tom also encouraged residents to be active and participate during the surveying. Tom also used the time when everyone was gathered to encourage them on contributions for the borehole as well as everyone finishing their facilities. After Tom welcomed the surveyors to give guidance on how the survey was to be conducted. The surveyors asked the residents of their preferred location for the borehole and all said the survey should be conducted on the upper section of the village. They all moved and the surveying started at the preferred point but the point was not good for drilling as their was no sign of water. They also moved in 6 more locations. From the six locations, only one location was positive for drilling as it showed that there was water at that point if drilled. This location seemed not very appealing to some village members but Tom and Alex talked to the residents of why that location was better for the borehole and how it will benefit the whole community now and in the future. Tom also encouraged the chairman of the water committee to meet and request the land owner of the proposed site for the borehole to to give the land for borehole drilling without payment of compensation. After the discussion, Tom, Alex and the surveyor held a short meeting with the committee members where they were encouraged to continue with sanitation and hygiene improvements as well as borehole contribution for the drilling . All on all, the community was very happy for the site and the hope for a new borehole in their village. They also promised to finish with the borehole contribution as well as improve and finish their sanitation and hygiene facilities
