Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Suzan went to the village to conduct the first evaluation process. When she arrived there, she was welcomed by some committee group leaders, rose and Joseph who were already waiting at the meeting place. Suzan briefly sat down with the members and first explained to them the purpose and importance of the evaluation that day, such as checking on the stove usage and the maintenance of the other program facilities. Finding out if there were any challenges faced by the members while cooking on the new improved stoves. This would help them identify possible solutions to them. Later after, they got up and began walking home to home while checking on different facilities. During the process, Suzan entered the participants kitchens and asked them different questions concerning the stove usage and other facilities while they answered to them. Most kitchens were neatly smeared with good stoves and the women were busy cooking on them with no complaints. The women said how the new stoves had greatly changed their lives such as saving firewood and time for other activities, cooking on time for their families, smokeless kitchens and they no longer suffered from eye infections and other chest diseases. About six homes had poor facilities which needed to be improved. Suzan thanked the members for the good work done and encouraged them to always work together as a team and continue building stoves for the new members within and outside their village. She requested the old members to assist other members in repairing their facilities especially the stoves which were not cooking well. Some kitchens needed to be reconstructed on the roofs because they had less grass on them which would easily affect the stoves once it began raining heavily. The members promised to improve on their facilities as soon as possible before the rainy seasons, and the meeting finally came to an end wishing each other a happy stay.
