Learning Objectives
To educate the participants about the causes and dangers of early pregnancy and marriage among their children.
Notes
Introduction Teaching community members about the causes and dangers of early pregnancy and marriage to parent sounds funny but the fact is they need to learn this lesson so that they can start taking serious monitoring and guidance to their children more especially the girls than marriaging them off to old rich men in the sub county. This lesson is also taught so that parents can know that one of the most important things for young people to internalize is an understanding of the consequences of their actions so that they don’t try to mess around with their bodies. Overview When Manuela arrived in the village she found many participants seated waiting for her, she greeted them and asked one of the participant to pray. A prayer was lead by Simon, after that she asked the participants to remind her about the previous lessons that they learnt, most of the participants shared their views and after that Manuela introduced the lesson to them and asked the participants about their homework, they said that they did, after that Manuela divided the participants in three groups ABC, Group A was only the men, then Group B and C, women only, the men discussed on the causes and effects of early pregnancy while group be B disused on the causes and effects of early marriage then finally Group C discussed on the possible solution on the effects of early pregnancy and marriage. Discussion Manuela liked the way women were discussing and pointing at the men to stop giving out their daughters in exchange of money and goats. The presenter said that for them women they are trying to fight for early marriages among their girls but their husbands are doing the opposite side of it. Each group discussed and later presented what transpired in each different groups, each group had a representative to present, it was fun and good. While discussing, the women stated some causes of of early marriage like kids sharing room with parents can result to early marriage, sending kids to shops at night, domestic violence, miss treatment of kids at home, child labor and finally parents forcing their daughters to get married while young. During the discussion, it was good to see men Auguring about the causes and the effects of early pregnancy, one of the participants said it’s really bad, men talk to your boys to stop that, he went on and said that these girls they use them but they later dump them and they suffer a lot he banged the fellow men to stop that act of lawing underaged girls. While presenting, they stated causes like not providing basic needs for the kids, not showing love for their kids, domestic violence, bad peer groups, irresponsible parents who don’t talk to their children about their feature and among others. Group C, members in this group discussed about possible solutions for example they stated things like, parents should provide all basic needs to their children so that they stop going street to look for help, showing love to their kids, advising them to avoid bad peer groups, stopping domestic violence, Avoid sending kids to the night shops and market , encouraging our daughters to put on properly and among others. Finally, Manuela gave a conclusive recap about the discussion made, Manuela advised the parents to consider all what they have learnt and educate their children about lessons taught, and she told them to take good care of their children and protect them from angry lions who are looking for their young girls and boys in the community.
