Notes
Tom made a visit to kalalu to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements. He arrived in the village when it was raining and had to wait for a while before he could meet any of the committee members. He drove around the village in the car as it was raining. From the car, he could see some new latrines and was able to see from a distance three newly finished latrines. He drove to one of the committee members home as it was raining and they both had a discussion about the program. Mr Mulega from the lower section and a committee member said the section has improved greatly and pointed out that only about three to four people are yet to finish their latrines. On the issue of hand washing, Mr Mulega said many residents are finding it hard to get cement and construct the hand washing stands. He said it has been raining in Kalalu so much that even some motorists don’t want to go to the village of kalalu. Tom requested him to meet with the other committee members and move in the lower trading center area because their were still some people there without even a pit yet. He said he was going to meet with them and together they will visit some homes and sensitize them. Also Mr Mulega said that on the lower section, there has been and improvement especially in dish rack construction. He said he had helped four residents with the construction of their dish racks and that three more had requested him to go and help them. After Mr Mulega’s home, Tom drove off to jinja as it was still raining.
