Diana and Ida went to Bukudhumira to teach about chores and responsibilities. The day was cool. When we reached Iganga there was a heavy downpour, that we could not even see the road clearly, the driver decided to drive slowly until we reached the road that was turning to Bukudhumira, the road was terribly bad at a certain point we thought we would not make it, but by God’s grace we did. We met the Kibo ambassadors at Sam’s home in a heavy down pour. This being a moslem community most of them had gone to the mosque to register their names to get Eid gifts which include meat and rice. The Eid day was to be there on 13th of may 2021. Ida and Diana thanked Sam for welcoming them in his home. Ida told them to keep loving the lessons and continue teaching others who have not attended. Diana thanked Sam and his team for being good to them. Diana introduced the lesson of the day which was chores and responsibilities in children. Diana asked them to describe some of the chores that you give your children, Sam said sweeping, washing the utensils, mopping the house. Diana thanked him for his brilliant answers. Diana told the ambassadors that chores are very important to the community, they train children into responsible adults. Parents should take chores as a punishment to their children, but as a blessing to the children. Diana continued with the lesson, she told them when children are given jobs to do when younger, they develop confidence in the ability to complete tasks, most especially the young children. Hands on movement help the child’s growth and fine motor skills for example, helping in the garden, pulling grass weeds, sweeping the compound. Children who do chores, learn to work well with others. Diana encouraged them that if they have more than one child, have them work on a chore together, for example washing dishes, sweeping the compound. Making the children do chores makes them feel a sense of ownership. Ida added on that, children who participate in chores have been shown to be happier, even if they feel that chores are burden some. She told them that they should teach children to work so that they don’t kill them (parents). The ambassadors on hearing this, were so happy and promised to teach their colleagues who are not around. Diana and Ida thanked them for their time and for maintaining the hand washing facility in their area.
