Notes
The chairman LC1, VHTs and Enock first met to talk about how the community is progressing with the sanitation and hygiene of the village. Enock questioned them how many residents at the moment don’t have latrines, he also asked what could be the problem in those homes if till now they don’t have latrines. They also continued to have some solutions which could help these families to have latrines at least before the end of this month. The chairman and VHTs said that there are 7 homes in the whole village without latrines at the moment, they say most of the men in those homes left the village to go and look for money in some different village. Although 4 of those homes have newly dug pits about 15 ft deep. They haven’t constructed structures on them. So the women and children are still suffering with open defection because they don’t have latrines to use. After the short meeting, they visited those homes which do not have latrines as well as those with them to encourage them, assess the maintenance, check on the use of all the facilities, emphasize on the use of ash and uses of hand washing facilities. They met the families at home where some ladies said that they will get the money to start constructing proper structures on there latrines even though their husband are not at home. The rest of the women promised to call their men through the use of their cellphones so that they tell them to send the money to dig new pit latrines to avoid open defection which causes so many diseases. There are so many families which are maintaining so well their facilities, and they deserve a lot of credit. They have smeared their facilities so well from the latrines, kitchen, shower and more. Enock appreciated the great work and encouraged them to always maintain the sanitation in their homes which will lead to development in their homes and entire village. Generally many residents are working so hard to improve on the sanitation levels of the whole village. The chairman and VHTs frank are taking the lead to monitor and evaluate the whole village as well as encouraging them to construct good facilities and embrace sanitation.

There was one of the local leaders from the sub-county who for long in his home didn’t have a latrine. When Enock visited his home, they have a new latrine constructed with bricks and cement. Enock didn’t find him in his home because he had gone to the garden.

2279 During my follow up visit, I met this man using his bicycle to carry bricks to construct a Latrine structure in his home. He was so excited because he is soon having a new latrine in his home.
