Notes
Purpose of the visit. Manuela and Lorna went to Ikumbya village to meet with the committee members concerning continuity of the program. When we arrived the village, we were met by Jane who directed us where the meeting was to be held. We drove to the meeting place and there we were met by 3 committee members . We waited for the others to Jin and as soon as they did, the meeting begun. It begun with an opening prayer and was followed by the chairman’s remarks who then invited Kibo staff to address them. Manuela and Lorna greeted the community members and asked them to share their experiences during this lockdown. The chairman mentioned that his son contracted Covid-19 and his wife deserted him for fear. However the chairman mentioned that as soon as he was informed his son was sick and coming to the village, he arranged where he was going to sleep. It was a learning experience for him but thanks God they managed to overcome. After the chairman sharing we discussed on how to move forward with the Life Skills program since the lifting of the lockdown. We discussed about meeting in two different groups as we put all SOPs in place. After discussing the way forward, Manuela and Lorna went on to ask if there were any other challenges experienced during this period. One of the women by names of Jane reported that in their community some mothers are forcing their daughters to get married to some identified men who may give them something in return, she mentioned three girls reported to her because she is the woman representative of that village, Jane still believes that there may be other girls too but maybe they are fearing. she was requesting Manuela and Lorna to work with her so that they can help these girls, she went on and said that one of the girl is staying with the Aunt in fear of being married yet she is still young, and the rest are still in their parents homes simply because they had no where to go. Manuela and Lorna asked if she has reported the case to the chairman of that village, she said she did but she is not seeing any help. Good enough Manuela and Lorna were having a contact of the probation officer of Luuka district. They contacted her and told her to call Ikumbya subcounty probational Officer to follow up on that case, Manuela and Lorna plan to meet the girls and their mother and find out the truth about all this case. Manuela and Lorna are continuing to follow up this case through phone calls as well as on the ground.
