Notes
Jessica and Suzan went to the village to guide the community in choosing their own committee group leaders. They arrived and found some members already gathered at the meeting place and they reminded them of the lessons that day. Kibo staff first began by requesting each member to participate in the lessons since it’s a community centered lesson. They first asked the participants to feel free and explain the importance of leadership in a community or any program so that they would build on that. One of the elderly men Mr. Mukwata who looked to be a little tired raise his hand and began explaining the importance of a chairperson which was leading the rest of the group members and ensure that everything ran smoothly and effectively. It was so encouraging to see that most members knew the importance of leaders. Suzan and Jessica then requested the community to choose their own leaders since they knew them better . They asked them to be very careful while choosing their leaders because once they chose weak leaders they would fail to coordinate the entire program implementation as well as to promote the program sustainability. Kibo staff explained to the community how poor leadership can lead to poor mobilization and supervision together with qualities of a good leader. The members were pleased to hear the information and began selecting their leaders by raising their hands and mentioning their names while they voted with the biggest number. A committee group leadership was formed such as a chairman, secretary, treasurer, mobilizer, time keeper and disciplinary officer. The members thanked Kibo staff for the lessons taught and the meeting came to an end.
