Notes
Suzan and Tape went back to the village to teach the community members how to build the fuel efficient stoves. When they arrived, they found the members gathered at one of the homes where the stove was going to be built while stamping the dirt already. The group was then divided into groups because they were going to build two stoves that day yet the members were many and couldn’t fit in one kitchen. Tape went with group A while Suzan with group B and began teaching the members how to build stoves in two separate kitchens. Kibo staff carried out all the steps from cutting and shaping the banana stems, taking measurements at the right wind direction and building the stove. Some of the identified active men in the previous meeting tried to participate in some stove building steps such as cutting the banana stems and building the stove together with Kibo staff. This was encouraged by Kibo staff because practice makes perfect. However one of the challenges in the village was the members taking alcohol while working where by some of them kept on distracting others because they were so drunk. Kibo staff requested the members to always participate in the program activities when they are sober enough to understand what’s going on which will enable them learn all the skills of the healthy and safe kitchens program. Finally two stoves were built and the members thanked Kibo staff for the lessons taught that day. Tape and Suzan also encouraged the members to continue improving on all their facilities before receiving the new improved stoves in their kitchens, as well as to invite more new members into the program. They thanked everyone for attending the lessons and the meeting came to an end.
