Notes
Alex W moved home to home checking on community members that are being prepared by Kibo group MCD staff to receive goats. In order for one to qualify to get a goat from kibo group, there are conditions that must be met including planting trees and surviving, attends community meetings and a clean home with all the required sanitation and hygiene facilities in place. Alex was in Bupaluka to ensure that all members meet all the conditions by physically meeting them in their homes and checking on their trees. On a good note, many of the people have their trees still surviving but the biggest challenge was that the Mvule trees needed to be urgently sprayed. It’s just unbelievable how most of the trees have grown so big and even those planted by some community members this very year. While in the various meetings held with Kibo Group staffs, the community members were encouraged to plant other trees on top of what they received from kibo group. It was very nice to see Faith Muzei one of the old ladies in the community proudly showing Alex W her three young trees she has planted this year and promised to continue planting more. Many other community members have planted other kinds of trees in their homes on top of what they received from kibo group back in 2018. Alex B encouraged people to prepare their places to shelter and feed the goats they are to receive from kibo and indeed many of the people have gone a head to plant the bark cloth type to feed their goats. Alex W together with the community leaders visited 15 homes out of the 43 community members that are meant to receive goats from Kibo group. Alex encouraged the community members to have all the required sanitation facilities in their homes , plant more trees in their homes and prepare themselves before they can receive a goat from Kibo group. MCD staff will go back to continue visiting all the people meant to receive goats from kibo group and ensure that they meet all the requirements. It’s nice to see that some community members are already working on their new sanitation facilities to replace the collapsed and broken facilities in their homes. This is one other paramount condition before one can receive a goat from kibo that he or she has to have participated in all the kibo group programs and has kept all the required sanitation and hygiene standards. The community members were encouraged to visit all the members and ensure they have all the requirements and to also mobilize each other to have them.
