Bible Lesson 8: Teaching Children
Notes
Ida went to Ndalike to teach about disciplining children according to age. She asked the community members to tell her some of the ways discipline their children. Kaudha Betty said that she denies her children food. Kagoya Rehema said that she burns her children’s fingers when they steal. Kisame said that he beats them up and later explains the to them the reason as to why he did so. Ida thanked the community members for sharing their ways of disciplining the children. She also explained the difference between disciplining vs torturing. Let us discipline our children with love wait until the anger calms down and then discipline. Discipline with anger might end up in torture. After the discussion about discipline, Ida gave some suggestions on how to discipline children according to age. Babies learn by watching us, use positive language to guide your baby eg shouting at the baby eg don’t stand, instead say “hello baby it’s time to sit “ Toddlers need to find out why they shouldn’t do certain things, pay attention, praise/ ignore where necessary. Set some family rules to follow and also consequences if rules are broken. Let’s stop yelling at our children in public, avoid verbal abuse this a-shames them. Mugote the VHT thanked Kibo for the life lessons and prayed for journey mercies back to Jinja.

21975 Nambi Easter from Ndalike pausing with her children. Easter asked Ida to go and see how the Kibo weekly lessons about parenting had changed the family. Bambi’s children had gone wild but because of the Kibo lessons even the community members are wondering what happened! The children are now the examples of good children that others refer to as the best disciplined in the community.
