Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson we know that everyone has a life story but how do we learn through the journey, what mistakes should we not repeat. By the end of the lesson we know who a role model is and the different characteristics and what to do to become like them.
Notes
On arrival, we were given news that the community had lost 2 people an old man and a baby who died during delivery and therefore the community was split as some went to comfort the lady who lost the baby. However the meeting still went on with the people that attended. In today’s meeting we started with a word of prayer as usual and then went on and reviewed the previous lesson which was on decision making that is steps in making decisions. After this Lorna introduced the topic of the day which was Life story and role models. In Life story Lorna mentioned that in life we all have a past , we all have gone through some staff good and bad, and ugly others smooth but what do we learn and how can we build our lives , encourage each other moving forward. Life stories is for being vulnerable. We had three people share their stories although the first did not necessarily get it . We called this lesson gyenvude “life story” “where I have been”. Ivan shared the rough experience he has had pre and post covid period where , he shared how his wife got pregnant and had complications and how he lost his produce and went to having nothing and yet he had to take care of his pregnant wife and the rest of his family including his mother. Lorna asked him what kept him going and what has he learnt. He mentioned that he sought counsel from friends who strengthened him that everything will be okay and he also prayed to God. His younger brother Isabirye also had a story to share he shared how growing up with about 8 siblings was hard and yet they all wanted to go to school but time reached and their father who also attended the meeting and was listening silently. He mentioned since they were many , they had to work very hard, dig with their hands not hoes . However later for him he later stopped at primary seven and joined a seminary training and he always excelled ,later on he became a bible scholar, he even was given a church to pastor however he gave up all this because of a particular story where he saw a man hunt himself after his children came to him asking for needs from school . The man got a rope went behind the house and hung himself. He was so touched ,discouraged and he thought about his dad and how he has struggled . He however took another path of riding a body bodacious which until now he is doing. He mentioned life was not easy but he learnt perseverance and hard work.He encouraged the community to teach the children how to work, skills. Jane also shared her pain of having come from a rich home to a village where they barely had a roof and one time the wind was too much that it blew the roof and she had to stay awake with her children. Also twice she kept getting miscarriages and it was hard for her and the community where all words were being spoken. However she kept trusting God. After this we looked at who a role model is and characteristics of a good role model. We found out who a role model and and we saw it is that person that we admire and want to be like. Lorna mentioned that at school we ask pupils who their role models are and some mention mother, father . Lorna asked do the children say that about them and why. She mentioned one cannot be a good role model when they are drunkards, always fighting, quarreling, don’t take care of their home responsibilities. Lorna mentioned to them to think in the community, and in their own who are these people they look up to and why. Some names were mentioned and one in particular they mentioned a certain lady who has a very organized house and is very hardworking. Lorna asked what do they think they do different?. Could it be waking up earlier than everyone else ? Among others. We will start from here in the next lesson. The life stories took long and yet we had other people who still wanted to share and also people wanted to go to the funeral as well. Isabiryes father was thankful for the lesson and thanked Lorna through Kibo and every Kibo program for whatever skills and for this lesson he mentioned we never have time anymore to talk to our kids but with lessons like this we can all hear and learn from each other. He mentioned he will sleep thinking about this lesson and hopes he can share his story. Lorna thanked them for attending and passed her condolences and left for Jinja.
