Notes
Diana went to Nawandyo B to teach on the lesson of Domestic violence. The community had already waiting for the community empowerment lesson. The Secretary Khamadi welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending, and keeping time. He went a head to make fun that the wise ones are at their homes while the stupid ones are attending the lessons, everyone laughed at Khamadi’s comment. He told the community not to lose hope, because they can testify that their community has been transformed through the Kibo program lessons. At this time, he requested the community to clap for the Kibo team for transforming their community. He welcomed Diana to take over. Diana thanked everyone for attending in person. She told them that those who think that they are wise and dodge the lessons, will admire them, they will look for them for help. The community agreed on this and thanked Diana for always encouraging them. Diana asked them what they remember from the previous lesson. Sarah, said that a parent has to use positive words towards their children, don’t abuse them, don’t shout at them, instead show the children love. Yudaya said that parents need to listen to their children whenever they report to them or explaining themselves to their parents. Khamadi said that discipline teaches children to manage their emotions. Diana thanked them for their participation. This really shows that they understood the lesson of how to discipline children. Diana at this time introduced the lesson of domestic violence to the community. She asked them what they understand by the term Domestic violence in their community. Khamadi responded that domestic violence is when husbands and wives inflicted pain on themselves. Diana thanked him for his answer. Diana went ahead to teach that Domestic violence is not only caused by husbands and wives, but also the children can cause domestic violence, this is when children side with one parent and gang up against the other parent. When there is no love in the family, domestic violence is always around. Also having a violent temper is one of the lead to domestic violence, cruelty to animals also can make a person become cruel to human beings, this is shifted anger, mental illness can make a person rowdy hence hurting their wives, husbands or children. Belittling one another in public is another cause of domestic violence. Diana taught that most couples don’t know how to talk to their spouses in public, they shout or bark at them, which really offends them, hence making them to retaliate or defend themselves. Ruth said that adultery is making most families break up. Diana told the community that even the Bible condemns adultery and it is the only incidence that God allows one to divorce his wife or her husband. Diana also demonstrated how rumor mongering can lead to domestic violence in families, as the community looked on laughed, saying that it is what goes on in their community. She warned them not to believe every information that is brought to them before they find out the whole truth. This lesson affects very many people and whenever it is brought up, people pour out their hearts. Diana discovered that these people were hurting so much and they don’t have to be rushed. Khamadi the secretary thanked Diana for teaching them and touching one of the core problems in their community. He requested everyone to come with their spouses in the next lesson.
