Notes
Lorna was in Mpumiro village where she introduced the topic of relationship Skills. The meeting was opened by the chairman where he welcomed Lorna and the community members to the meeting. He apologized for the turn up since it’s raining that most people are in their gardens harvesting gnuts. He asked Lorna to go ahead and teach those present. He asked Bumali to open up with a word of prayer after which the meeting begun. We started by reviewing the previous lesson which was on communication skills focusing on Assertive communication. We gave different examples of Assertive messages and also how the parents need to teach their children how to be Assertive to avoid all the challenges they face as young children. After this review, Lorna introduced the topic of the day which was Relationship Skills. Mpumiro has a history of grudges, one family not relating well with the other family and this goes back to the generation of their grandparents. This topic not entirely will solve all their issues but it works to sensitive them of relationship skills. We started by defining what relationship skills is which we defined as working well together for the better healthier lives. Lorna started by mentioning in life we need relationships like your wife, husband , friends, family . One decided in life that they need a significant other for a relationship because they don’t have all they need they need another to offer to the. What they lack hence getting married. We looked at the importance of relationships like ; it brings about development, peace, unity, joy , accountability and just a whole sense of togetherness. We looked at different examples of good relationships in the community for example attending meetings, working on sanitation and hygiene, attending funerals, cases of low teen pregnancies, early marriages , low cases of theft because the community is working together to ensure the development of their village. Lorna advised the village against being jealous with each other , she gave examples of this family not greeting the other family that it brings strife even to the children which is not good. She advised them to always support each other if ones child is found in wrong another parent can discipline them because it is for the betterment of the whole community. Lorna mentioned that let’s not put adults disagreements into our children it can only go as far as nothing. When we have good relationships in our home , in community there good results. The chairman thanked Lorna for the lesson and told the community members that from what we learnt it is everything in their community. He thanked them for attending the meeting and asked them to mobilize other people for the next lesson and to pay attention to what is being taught.
