Notes
Suzan went to the village to follow up on the kitchen safety and the construction of the firewood storages. She reached and went to the meeting place where she found a few committee members gathered under a tree. She explained about the activity that day and requested them to walk along with her while checking on different facilities. Together they went and began visiting different homes, Suzan found some women had well maintained and smeared stoves, firewood stands stocked with enough firewood. Agnes one of the active participants reported that it was important to have a firewood storage which can help one save enough firewood especially during scarcity. She said most trees were cut down for charcoal burning making it so hard to find firewood in the forest. Some members were now using cassava stems and maize corn to make fire because the real firewood was scarce. Suzan also kept on advising the ladies to continue cooking on their fuel saving stoves on a daily basis so as to avoid the challenges faced while cooking on the three stones open flames stoves. A good kitchen must be well ventilated letting out all the smoke and dust. Utensils to be well cleaned and dried outside on the dish rack as well as smearing all the inside and outside parts of the kitchen. She also encouraged them to make sure their kitchens didn’t leak when it rained because the rains can easily wet the firewood and destroy the stove. The members thanked Suzan for the advice given and promised to improve on all their facilities for a healthy life.
