Maria and Irene went to Nawandyo A, to continue teaching about Immunization, the benefits of breastfeeding and complementary feeding. The chairperson Mr. Dan thanked the community members for coming and Kibo for the tremendous love extended to this village, then Justine the VHT opened with a word of Prayer thereafter , Maria was invited to speak to the members. Maria thanked all members for coming, made a review of the previous lesson, and then Irene was invited to speak to the members Irene thanked everyone for turning up and then continued teaching about Immunization, asking members when the first vaccination is given, where it is given , at what age should child finish immunization. Saida asked the teacher the difference between polio and immunization . She said that in this village most people do not know immunization but polio. Irene said that polio is a vaccine given to baby from 0 - 5 years while as immunization is the process of giving a vaccine to a person to protect the body from diseases. Still Irene explained the different shots given from 0 to 5years, the mass vaccination in case of any outbreak, pregnant mothers are given TT and girl at the age of 9 and above are also given vaccines for cervical cancer. Irene encouraged the members to go for immunization for the drugs used are safe for everyone’s health. Then Maria was invited to teach about breastfeeding and complementary feeding, The discussion started by defining the term breastfeeding and Nandego said that it means feeding baby with milk, in addition to that , Maria said it’s when a mother feeds her baby with breast milk or nutrites they need for growth and development. Together with the community member Maria discussed the benefits of breastfeeding, challenges of breastfeeding, and when to start giving the soft foods to babies. Maria encouraged all mothers to breastfeed their babies for at least 1 1/2 years, add some soft foods when the baby is 6 months. The chairperson thanked members for coming and encouraged them to come again with a friend then he ended the meeting with a word of prayer.
