Notes
Maria and Irene went to Kalitumba to teach about Malaria and upper respiratory tract diseases. The VHT miss Zaina welcomed everyone, thanked the Kibo staff for the love spread towards Kalitumba then Betrice open with a word of prayer. The VHT invited Kibo staff to say a word to the community members. Maria thanked all members for turning up but most especially the men and she encouraged them to keep it up. Then Maria introduced the topic as Malaria. Maria together with the community members discussed the mode of spread, causes, signs & symptoms, prevention and treatment of Malaria in community. Lydia said that the government provided Mosquito nets but some members use them for chicken rearing, some to fence their nursery beds among other instead of putting them on their beds. Kevina also said that when they see the signs and symptoms, they just give local herbs like Alveolar, jinger, tepid sponge to cool the temperature. Maria encouraged all community members to sleep under the mosquito net every night, go to hospital in case they see any signs of malaria and avoid using local herbs as they may cause other effects to the body. Irene taught about the upper respiratory tract infection discussing the mode of spread, signs and symptoms, and how to prevent and treat it. Ronald shared how he got cough in his home, this came as a result of leaving in a dusty house, and working in grinding machines without wearing a face mask Irene encouraged them to put on a face mask whenever they’re in places which are dusty, crowded, wash hands regularly with soap and flowing water, smear their houses to avoid dusty houses and also visit the hospital for proper treatment. Irene still emphasized practicing all practices like they are doing it with COVID because it’s also flue and it’s mode of spread the same. There after all members were given soap as an incentive from Kibo. They were excited and grateful for all the love and care Kibo have shown to their community. Maria and Irene had a conversation with Hajirah, she said that the father has agreed to put up a small hut for her and the baby, also planning to go back to school when schools open, meanwhile there is a technical school that is taking dropouts and we talked to Zaina the VHT to recruit Hajirah as it was also her area of interest.
