Notes
Tom and keneth made a trip to buluvu for hand washing triggering and construction of hand washing stands.on arrival,Tom and keneth made walks together with the chairman and VHTs to mobilize members for the session. They conveyed foe a meeting and chairman of the village said a prayer to open up the session where mr Tom introduced the topic and asked them the uses of their hands/ fingers. Breastfeeding, anal cleansing, greeting, bathing ,sneezing, scratching were some the answers raised by the community members and Tom asked them how are these uses related to our hands. A member raised and said they are related in away that they TRANSMIT dirt and diseases which was a perfect answer. Tom went further asking the community examples of diseases that can be got due to such a life style.diarrhea, typhoid, dysentery, cholera, trachoma, and COVID-19 were answers raised by the members, he further asked them what is to be done in order to stop the transmission and one resident said by washing their hands Tom asked the community members to show off their hands to their neighbors and asked 3 volunteers to come up if their hands seemed clean.he demonstrated washing hand without soap and wate water kept, washed with soap and waste water kept, and rinsed their hands and waste water kept too. Tom asked the community members to tell the difference between the waste water and they said the one with soap seemed more dirt and tubid and asked them why. A member raised and said it’s because the soap removed more dirt that had remained in the hands after washing without soap and the members agreed to start washing their hands with soap since they saw the difference. He further asked two volunteers to come up and asked these volunteers to smear their palms with charcoal and after they washed their hands, asked them to gently press their fingers on the posho ,after these the community members realized dirty marks left on the posho and this triggered them about food sharing with some one with nails.they all agreed to keep their fingernails short and wash hands with soap regularly.
