Notes
Suzan went back to the village as a supprise visit to monitor the food handling safety, kitchen safety as well as the maintenance of the stoves. After giving out incentives, suzan kept on making calls in the village to find out how far they had reached with the stove building lessons especially at the neighboring villages. The group chairperson madam koowa reported that some new members had come up and wanted to build for them the fuel efficient stoves because they noticed how the first group members were enjoying its benefits. Suzan decided to pay a surprise visit to check wether the members had improved on their sanitation and maintained other facilities. On reaching there, she went to the chairperson’s home and found her preparing lunch for her family. Suzan sat out a bit under a tree as she waited for her to finish up with her work. Later after, she explained to her the purpose of her visit that day and without wasting much time, they began walking around the village while visiting different homes especially for the members who participated in the program lessons. Some members managed to maintain all their facilities by smearing all their houses, constructing stronger firewood storages which had fine firewood, well built shower areas, latrines and dish racks. Other members needed to repair and smear their stoves because they developed big cracks around them. It’s the time Suzan came across one young girl called safiya about 9 yrs old at her mother’s kitchen who said has some idea on how to repair and seal off the cracks on the stove using dust and water because she had previously watched one of the staff member teaching the women in the village. This was so interesting to see and Suzan requested her to briefly demonstrate how the activity is carried out as she watched and guided her on some areas she wasn’t sure of. The mother was so surprised and happy at the same time to see how her daughter carried out the demonstration. Suzan also kept on encouraging the women to improve on the sanitation in the kitchens and around their homes so as to stay healthy and free from infections . They were so grateful for the lessons taught and promised to continue working together in expanding the program activities to the neighboring communities.
