Notes
Diana went to Bulyowa A to continue with the lesson of early marriages in children. The Community had already gathered. Mr. Waiswa thanked the community for keeping time. He requested Mbeiza to open the lesson with a word of prayer. Mr. Bwire the Secretary reminded the community on the importance of attending the lessons which are offered to them by the Community Empowerment Program. Diana thanked the community for attending in person and putting into practice what has been taught to them. Diana requested Matia to remind everyone where they had ended in the previous lesson, he said that they ended on the effects of early marriages which were, premature death, untimely pregnancies, Nangobi added on that children get sexually transmitted infections, Esther said that children of those who marry young, they are unhealthy and some times end up getting fistula. Diana thanked them for their good participation. Diana opened up on the discussion of the solutions to early marriages. Charles said, parents should know that early marriage is wrong, they should educate children so that they can take care of the parents when they grow old. Mutesi said that parents should learn to love their children so that they don’t go off truck( getting married at a tender age). Dongo added on that parents should Cane their girls hard, this prompted laughter from the community. Diana reacted to Dongo’s answer, she told the community not to beat their children hard, they should discipline them, but not to beat them hard. Diana went on to say that boys should not be left out because they force the girls to fall in love with them. All children should be corrected in the same manner. Diana also taught that poverty should never be a reason for any young girl to be married off like some parents have done. She told them that they can dig or rear chicken to get money like some parents have done. She also added that parents should know that their children are gift from God, and they should instead groom them rightly and help them succeed in life. Miria called upon the community to stand with the parents to help fight the vice of early Marriages. The discussion continued. The chairman mr. Waiswa stood to thank everyone for attending in person and thanked Diana for teaching them and helping in the transformation of their community.
