Notes
Enock took the third batch of hand washing jerrycans to the community members who had completed the construction of hand washing stands and more so latrines as well as emphasize the proper maintenance and usage of all the facilities. As soon as he arrived the community, he meet with the sanitation committee members to walk around the community and sensitize the proper construction of Latrine facilities, shower areas, dish racks, kitchen areas, rubbish pit and more emphasis on hand washing construction and usage. Ironically there are many new latrines construct and we observed proper use of latrines except in some homes where house flies where so many inside the latrine. This gave us and opportunity to teach the residents and leaders about the use of ash to chase flies out of the latrine house and stop the bad smell to improve the hygiene inside the latrine. The community residents saw clearly how flee the latrine while we demonstrated the use of ash. On top of that, we also taught the residents how flies carry fiscal matter(feces) from the latrines to their food cause bacteria infections and diseases like diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid which can even lead to loss of lives. We continued encouraging the residents to take the every lesson seriously. After we walked to the meeting area where we people came to talk about how they can contribute money for borehole repair on the percentage the community has to contribute, they also came to pick jerrycans for hand washing stands and also talk about unity and transformation in sanitation and hygiene improvements. Enock emphasized standardization, continuous use of pick axes to dig pit latrines. Generally this community has greatly improved and embraced the sanitation program.
