Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Suzan went to the village to follow up on the stove usage/kitchen safety, smearing of the buildings and construction of the kitchen roofs. She arrived at noon time and went to the meeting place where she found some group members sitting and discussing about some village issues. After exchanging greetings and making plans, Suzan walked along with three members in different homes while monitoring the stove usage and the firewood storages. During the process, she she came across some kitchens which needed to be reconstructed from the roof because the wind blew off all the grass which created big openings. Suzan talked to the members especially the men to assist their wives in roofing the kitchens because when it rains, the water that goes in can easily destroy the fuel efficient stoves as well as the firewood storages. Some stoves were found well maintained and smeared while cooking food. Some firewood storages were well constructed and stocked with enough firewood while others were poorly constructed with small poles. Suzan advised the members to always use stronger materials to build their facilities so that they lasted longer as well as keeping their kitchens clean on a daily basis so as to avoid diseases. One of the active committee group members mr. Godfrey appreciated the healthy and safe kitchens lessons and promised to work hard in their team and improve on their healthy facilities . Suzan thanked the community for their time and wished them well in whatever they did.
