Notes
Maria went to Kishaike to teach about Maternal, infant and child health and gender role in MCH. The meeting as usual started with a word of prayer from the VHT Mr Sanyu, he then encouraged the members to always inform other members about what they have covered. Maria was requested to come and speak to the members. Maria thanked everyone for coming and introduced the topic as Maternal, infant and child health and gender role in MCH. The discussion started by defining the term Maternal, infant and child morbidity and mortality, the causes of morbidity and mortality, and how to avoid both. Rose said that most men do not take good care of they’re wives, mistreating them, some men even beat their wives even when women are pregnant with their babies as they claim. Amos shared why most men beat or fight women who are pregnant, he said that women stop having sex with their partners as early as 6 months, claiming that they are unwell so since some of them are impatient they decide to force their women. On addition to that Maria and the members discussed the causes of morbidity and mortality, hemorrhage, and sepsis, obstructed labor, malnutrition being the leading causes. Maria encouraged the members mostly mothers to always visit the hospital immediately after knowing that they are pregnant for antenatal care, and even to have sex up to when they are in labor, she advised men to always take good care of they wives, helping them with domestic work and also show them love, support them to get a balanced diet. She encouraged the men ( husbands) to be responsible and accompany their spouses to hospital for antenatal care and even when labor starts, looking after their children, providing the basic needs, giving them education, among others. The chairperson ended the meeting with a word of prayer and encouraged members to come again.
