Notes
Ida went to Bukoma C to teach a lesson about domestic violence focusing on causes and dangers . She asked the community to tell what they understood by the term “domestic violence “ Mr. Tigawalana said that “domestic violence is the fight between violence husband and wife” Erima the chairperson said that domestic violence is the misunderstanding between parents and children. He continued saying that domestic violence has caused children to run to streets. Sylvia said that domestic violence is when a man beats his wife . When a woman is beaten like a donkey, many flee and leave behind the children who later suffer the torture of step mothers which leads to even deaths. Suzan a 12 year old girl said that domestic violence is parents selling their daughters off for marriage. When the young girl refuses to get married, parents start fighting against each other and divorce knocks the door. Ida also asked the community to tell her some causes of domestic violence they know. Kateme said that drinking alcohol. Ruth said that poverty has contributed a lot. Okecho said that adultery. Swaibu said that too much anger. Ida continued asking the members, how do the above answers or reasons cause domestic violence? Erima the chairperson said that alcohol is one of the biggest problem that has appeared many times on his desk, women who married to the drunkards suffer because men dropped their responsibilities . Ruth explained how poverty can cause domestic violence, when a person lucks something to eat, they are tempted steal where they will be caught and killed,or burned by the mob. Achieng said that husbands piling wives like firewood also cause domestic violence because those women will fight, the children from different mothers also will join the fight which will result into a family fight. Ida thanked the members for participating and asked them to mention the dangers that might come due to domestic violence. Swaibu said that street kids will increase on streets. Theft will also increase because of the street kids. Early marriages, pregnancies and school dropouts will happen Ruth added. Ida said that Marriages will break and children suffer the consequences of their parents. The meeting ended when members were still interested but the time was against.
