Notes
Alex W and Abraham met Buluvu community leaders to combine efforts in mobilizing the village for the next meeting. It has been realized that the biggest challenge now in the community is poor mobilization and poor leadership. Because of its large size, we decided to meet with all the leaders and moved home to home checking on the people that received trees from Kibo group and while mobilizing them for the upcoming meeting. The meeting had been earlier scheduled for this day after the village canceled one last week but due to the challenge of poor mobilization and weak leadership, it couldn’t take place and decided to help the leaders to mobilize the village for the meeting. We target about 90% of the village to come to this meeting next week. Beginning with the lower section, they moved with the church leader Mrs. Kawanguzi Stephen and Charles Muyinda home to home telling people to attend the next week meeting scheduled for Wednesday 17 at 11:00 am. They reached about 20 homes in this section and all the people met promised to attend the meeting. They promised to continue reminding all the people in this section to attend the meeting next week. In the central part of the village (trading center), they met with the LC1 Mr. Bumali and 3 Vhts Mrs. Kansime, Mrs. Namukose and Jowelia. They moved in the homes located in the trading centre mobilizing people for the meeting. They were able to reach about 30 households in this section. While in the other lower section of the village called Buyangu where the Kibo borehole was drilled, they met with the area elder called Mr. Okecho peter who was encouraged to also mobilize all the people in that section for the meeting next week. Also on a very good note, the village were able to fix the borehole by installing new bearings and rubber buckets as advised by Alex during one of the previous visits to this village. They also promised to have a new fence constructed on this borehole by the end of the week. They will continue to follow up to make sure the community fulfill this promise, this borehole hadn’t ever been repaired since Kibo group drilled it and all the community members appreciate Kibo group for donating a first class borehole. The other challenge in this village has been that almost 90% of the people that received trees from Kibo group lost their trees to a long dry spell and it’s the reason that people need to be sensitized more about care for trees and encouraged to replace the dried trees. It’s indeed very unfortunate that up to now it hasn’t rained in this community and the village has almost lost everything they had planted this season to scotching sun. Something needs to be done by all the community members to address this issue as soon as possible. Also they were quite very few that turned up to plant the trees in the first time due to poor leadership and poor mobilization, so Kibo is looking at engaging all the community members to come up with a strong committee to aid the program. It’s highly anticipated that this time round people will turn up in large numbers to start again the wheel for this program. The leaders also suggested that a neutral point for the meeting be in the trading center shifting it from the usual lower part of the village at Kawanguzi Stephen church. While moving home to home they encouraged those who still have some young trees to water them at least twice a day and apply extra care so that they survive this drought. More of this is expected to be discussed in the coming general meeting
