Notes
When Tom arrived in Kalalu village, he found when there was a gathering at the primary school. He was told that there was an organization that was mobilizing residents to teach and give them loans to start small businesses. This activity greatly affected the attendance in the meeting as most people were attending this activity. Tom mentioned to the committee members that If it was possible they would have called him and rescheduled the trip so that they can all attend his meeting. The committee members apologized and said next time they will call in advance to communicate any changes in the community. Tom discussed with the committee and the community about their roles and responsibilities concerning the borehole. The committee and community members were very thankful and appreciated the lesson because most of them thought once a borehole is drilled, the responsibilities are only left to the committee members. There was a care taker from another neighboring borehole at the primary school who was very thankful for the lessons. He said the borehole at the primary school has many challenges because the community members think they have no responsibility whatsoever on the borehole. They all agreed that issues concerning usage, management, proper usage and cleanliness of the borehole are all shared responsibilities between the community and the committee. Tom also mentioned that collecting money collectively is also a shared responsibility and he encouraged them to focus on respect for one another and unity because its on those values that the borehole can be properly used and managed.
