Notes
Ida went to Ndalike to conduct an evaluation on domestic violence lesson and also introduce a new lesson ( poultry) Ida started by asking an ice breaking question which triggered the community members into a discussion. What are the causes and dangers of domestic violence? Bamuwani said that poverty and unemployment are some of the causes of domestic violence. Kyokali said that mental illness can also cause domestic violence. Mugote said that Education has caused domestic violence, this made members laugh. Ida didn’t know why members laughed at Mugote and Anthony explained. He said that education has damaged marriages because educated women think they are equal to their husbands which starts fights. Tatyaise said education has opened peoples minds to think of development than rumors. Kagoya said that young parents. Ida added on saying that parenting at a young age when the person is yet to learn learn the skills can lead to aggression, anger, frustration and depression. This is tied to other factors because young parents are more likely to be single, struggling economically or have lower educational achievement. Ida also talked about historical factors saying that freedom for women respective equality is still a matter of debate and is being fought for. So the change of mindset is bound to take time. Esther Waiswa said that Cultural Factors. Ida asked the community members to tell her how cultural factors have played a big role in causing domestic violence. Mbalire Christine said since the two couples are from different cultures, what might be inappropriate to the wife’s culture and yet to the husband’s culture seems appropriate, misunderstandings start from there which might end up in fights. Ndalike members were active and many answers were given which included “Alcoholism, suspicion of infidelity etc. What about dangers Ida asked? Battling Charles said that violence or abuse in any form has serious health consequences for the victim. It can lead to negative outcomes such as heart disease, cancer and gynecological problems Sumaya said that there are also behavioral health concerns like depression and high- risk sexual behaviors. Ida concluded by adding on to members contributions that domestic violence is linked to absenteeism and poor performance in the workplace, which may result in social isolation, housing and financial concerns, and further health risks for the victims and their families. Ida then introduced the new topic which is” Poultry lessons “ she told the members what to expect in the next coming four weeks. The time wasn’t favoring so the meeting ended with a prayer by Batuli Charles.
