Notes
Made made a visit to kalalu village to teach the community about the borehole wall fence, its advantages and disadvantages compared to the wooden borehole wall fence as well as reviewing the previous lessons of the committee and borehole users. Tom first moved around the village as he waited on residents to come to the meeting. He encouraged residents that had some facilities to finish to do so. In one home he encouraged the resident to construct a better dish rack while in another he discouraged the resident from letting open soak pits around their showers because the become breeding places for mosquitoes. Tom also encouraged the continued improvement on hand washing because he noted some homes did not have their jericans on the stands. After moving around, Tom came to the meeting place were he found a few residents. They said most of the people had not come because they were at the primary school were there was another program by the government to give residents loans. Because of the low attendance, Tom and the rest of the residents reviewed the previous lessons as they waited for the other residents at the primary school to come and join them. During the review, roles of the water user committee were discussed as well as the roles of the borehole users. One of the areas emphasized again was the idea that the committee and the water users work together as one because the borehole benefits all of them. Tom also encouraged the residents that the water user committee members are also borehole users who are also beneficiaries of the borehole. Because the other residents took long to come to the meeting, Tom introduced the lesson on borehole wall fence. He mentioned the lesson of the borehole wall fence but promised to continue with it on the next visit when most residents are present.

Some of the dangers are that they become good breeding places for mosquitoes which spread and cause malaria. After that discussion, the resident decided to clean up the soak pit and put a cover on it.
