Notes
Lorna went to Naibowa village where she went to teach Decision making Skills. Lorna found the parish counselor already waiting at the meeting place with 2 other women that she had invited whom Lorna later got to know them Basalirwa a VHT while Mary is the secretary of a different LC. Lorna appreciated the Parish counselor for inviting her friends to the meeting today. This is the second time the Parish counselor has attended the meeting and it was encouraging that she did not come alone. Our meeting started with a word of prayer , a welcome remark from the chairman who later welcomed the counselor to say a few words and thereafter would invite Lorna to take them through the lesson of the day. After all these speakers had spoken, a man passing by on a boda stopped his boda boda (motorist) guy and joined us for the meeting. The Parish counselor welcomed him and also asked him to introduce himself. After his introduction, Wakiso briefed the community members especially those that were new what the Life Skills program was about and then led us to the part where we were to review the previous lesson. After this he invited Lorna to take over the meeting. Lorna thanked him for the good work of mobilizing the people and always reminding us of the previous topics. We started off by reminding ourselves what transpired in the previous meeting which was on bride price. We saw that Bride price should not be or should not mean that a person owns another person because life cannot be bought or a person cannot be bought as there is no price tag because it is not right. We saw that Bride price should be seen as an Appreciation for the girls parents in sign of honor, exchange of wealth among others. We saw the negative part of bride price as well which breeds domestic violence and at times this comes because the charges were high and people are frustrated because they are in debt and they start blaming their wives for the cause of lack. After this we looked at the topic of the day which was on Decision making. Lorna started by asking the community what is Decision Making?. Musa who stoped his boda to join the meeting, mentioned that it is choosing from a variety of choices and eventually closing on one choice. Lorna thanked him for this answer and asked if there was any different answer and they mentioned that is the most right one. Lorna added that Decision making can also be deciding between what is right and what is wrong. Lorna went ahead and mentioned everyday we are faced with different decisions to make and these can be easy decisions like cooking food, becoming a more responsible person in the family as a mother and father , or hard like opening up a business, Carrying out an Abortion, working abroad, building a house, getting married among others. Lorna mentioned that as we make decisions , the process of making them matters a lot more than the conclusion of that decision. We looked at many examples including Abortion whether it is an easy or hard decision to make, Marriage , business among others. The common answer was to think about what one is doing and why they are doing it. Therefore on the steps in making Decisions , we looked at; Think before deciding, Pray for whatever decision, seek Advise, consider religion, consider family, consider culture, make the decision and then take responsibility for the consequences. The last step is the most important as Lorna mentioned that each one needs to take full responsibility for their actions/ Decisions made and this goes to our children too. We had different comparisons of decisions to make everyday and how we come to those decisions. Overall it was a great lesson and the community members appreciated Lorna for the lessons taught to them which are opening their eyes. Two youth were able to attend the meeting today even though they were drunk but they contributed to the lesson and were grateful for the lesson. Lorna asked them to be present even next time. The community prepared food which we all later ate together at the end of the meeting.
