Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Suzan went to the village and guided the participants on choosing their own leaders who will coordinate the healthy and safe kitchens program. When she arrived, she was welcomed by a few members who were already at the meeting place but before settling down together, they first walked around the village while checking on different facilities required before the stove building lessons began. In the process, Suzan observed that most buildings were not smeared while other people didn’t have good kitchens and cooked on the traditional three stones open flames. Later after, they went back to the meeting place and found more members had come and Suzan first informed the participants about the lessons and how it will benefit them during the program implementation. Suzan encouraged all the members to participate in the meeting which will help in identifying different ideas on how to choose good leaders. Together they first discussed about the qualities and importance of a leader in a community where by each person raised their hands and gave different or similar answers. This was very good to see each one participating in the lessons that day. Suzan also, requested the members to select their own leaders with care who will lead them through out the program implementation, for example like those who are always active during any community meetings or functions. Towards the end, the participants were able to select their own leaders after identifying the roles and responsibilities of each leader. The selected leaders were as follows; -The group chairperson and his vice. -The secretary. -Treasurer. -Time keeper. -Three mobilizers. -Disciplinary Officer. Suzan thanked everyone for attending the lessons and encouraged them to begin improving on their facilities such as smearing their buildings, constructing and repairing their other facilities like kitchen roofs, shower areas, dish racks and latrines. They thanked Kibo staff for the lessons taught and wished each other a happy stay.
