Notes
Ida went to Bukudhumira to teach the members how to build chicken coops. She encouraged them to use free simple materials from their gardens. As a group, they sat and agreed on where to build the coop and each one brought two small poles for construction. Isabirye Isooba from Nabikenge came and helped in the building process. The community was happy that a man from Nabikenge Isabirye Isooba offered to build three more coops for the three widows for free. Then the rest will contribute something small and those who wish to learn are welcome. Isabirye encourage the youth to learn the coop building because it has become his business due to the many orders he gets. Isabirye encouraged the community to start with small and then after sometime, they will sit as a group and decide on the way forward. He also testified how poultry farming has helped him in paying school fees and other things. Ida advised the members who are building a brick coop to use wire mesh starting from window level to enable air to circulate. These chicken coops are going to help reduce the loosing of chics due to wild birds and animals. Will also reduce quarrels that arise when chics go to the neighbor’s gardens and destroy plants ( vegetables) Swaibu thanked Isabirye for helping them see far and start saving with a purpose.
