Kitchens visit households

Village
Kishaike
Program
Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Suzan carried out the first evaluation process in the village with the help of three committee group leaders, they moved home to home while evaluating each household through both observations and asking the participants different questions. All the participants evaluated that day were found cooking on their new improved saving stoves. It was also observed that the members have greatly embraced smearing and maintained all their sanitation and hygiene facilities as well as constructing strong firewood stands in the kitchens. Some children were found inside the kitchens trying to clean up the stoves by taking out the ashes before lightening them. About six members needed to improve on their structures like the shower areas, dish racks and firewood storages which were poorly constructed. The members were so grateful for the program and reported that it has improved on their daily lives especially while preparing food for their families in the kitchens. They said they no longer suffered from smoke, the stoves cooked very well and faster yet they also used less firewood. Suzan encouraged the community to continue maintaining their sanitation facilities and scale out to the neighboring villages. Because of time, 20 homes were evaluated that day and Suzan planned to finish up with the remaining homes in the next coming visit.
