Notes
Buyange village is at the stage of working together on community income generating activities, this means chris has to make a number of trips to guide the community as they give their opinions regarding the project the community wants to engage in, during the discussions, every opinion matters that is the reason why chris encourages members to participate. The community members chose to start growing the onions, this followed by drafting the budget which is estimated at 582,000 , one of the members announced that he would be giving one acre of land for the project but he would officially hand it over to the members next week(today), all this is done as the community prepares to register with the subcounty and the arrangemenys are underway. Community project(Onions growing) While in the community chris joined the rest of the community members , led by Mr Mwalimu , they went straight to the land the community hopes to plant their onions, Mr mwalimu is one of the elders of the community who are blessed with a lot of land so he decided to share his blessing with the community to grow the onions. When they reached the land , chris realised that is near the kibo borehole and therefore water will not be a problem, the land is also strategically located since it is near the swamp and not far away from were chris conducts the meeting. Mr Mwalimu said gave part of his land because he wants to contribute towards the development of his community and be exemplary ti the rest of the members in the community as well. Mr mwalimu said the land was initially one and half acre however half an acre was in shade and yet onions do not gtow in shade so he decided to give them an acre. Chairperson Mrs Norah Kasoga thanked Mr Mwalimu for giving his land for onions project, she requests memberd to prepare themselves mentally and physically for the project , she stated that they hope to start buying the seeds and manure/fertilizers in january when the prices are still low, she said the most important thing was getting the land and that they have got it, the ball is now in the community’s court to start contributing money for the project. All the community members were very excited snd thanked Mr Mwalimu for being exemplary to them, they pledged to work together and uplift themselves through the onions project. Chris devised “good questions are better than imported solutions” as the day’s theme where he encouraged the members to look arround for the solutions for problems facing the community within themselves. Chris will continue with the economic activities lessons next week as he guides the community to estabilsh the project committee and as they design responsibilities to every member. Community registration. The vice chairperson ,Mr Gamali reminded the members that time was running out for registration, he appealed to them to devise means of getting 55,000 shillings to register at the subcounty however he cited a challenge of members being slow to contribute money for registration and suggested that the trrasurer should use part of the money for the project to register the community, the majority of the members raised their hands in protest of Mr Gamali’s suggestion, Mrs Namukose said it will be very difficult to recover that money however she suggested that since they are 97 members and they have not yet signed in the constitution, every member should contribute 1000 shillings before they can sign, this suggestion was seconded by the rest of the members and actually some members started handing in their contributions to the group secretary. The chairperon pledged to reach every member’s home to get their contribution and be able to register the community by wednesday next week.
